Certifications

IGP stands for “Indicazione Geografica Protetta” (Protected Geographical Indication, PGI) and is one of the two schemes the European Union uses to recognise and protect quality agri-food products whose characteristics are closely linked to, and dependent on, the history and the typical area of origin and production.

Coalvi, the Consortium for the Protection of the Piedmontese Breed, was the first body in Italy to develop a voluntary labelling specification designed exclusively for the Piedmontese breed, approved by the Italian Ministry of Agricultural Policies (IT007ET). Active since 1984 and already a quality mark under the Ministerial Decree of 1 March 1988, Coalvi – with 1,500 farms and 250 butcher’s shops – certifies 20,000 cattle every year, whose meat reaches the table not only with a guarantee of origin but also with a promise of high quality.
Coalvi also stands for culture, tradition and environment, with landscapes shaped by the presence of the Piedmontese breed. This is Coalvi’s commitment: to enhance a product and the whole world closely connected to it.

For almost 30 years the Consorzio Produttori Carne Bovina Pregiata delle Razze Italiane (CCBI) – the consortium of producers of fine beef from Italian breeds, founded in 1982 to promote and enhance the meat of the 5 Italian beef breeds (Chianina, Marchigiana, Romagnola, Maremmana and Podolica) – has been certifying all pure-bred and cross-bred cattle from the 5 Italian beef breeds Chianina, Marchigiana, Romagnola, Podolica and Maremmana. (Gruppo Loma specialises in Chianina and Marchigiana beef)
A historic mark linked to these breeds, “5R” is today synonymous with quality, safety and transparency, and has guaranteed farmers added value for the typical products linked to our lands and traditions. Its 2,700 farmers, 90 slaughterhouses, 93 cutting plants, 700 butcher’s shops and 200 restaurants located throughout Italy form an organised, controlled supply chain specifically governed by Labelling Specification IT003ET, approved by the Ministry with Ministerial Decree no. 22493 of 9 August 1999.
The main objective of the CCBI is to trace and enhance the entire production chain of Italian beef cattle, in order to offer greater guarantees to consumers and ensure maximum transparency and services for farmers at every single stage of the chain.

The Consorzio di Tutela Vitellone Bianco dell’Appennino Centrale IGP (the consortium protecting the “White Young Bull of the Central Apennines” PGI) was established on 12 February 2003 and officially recognised by the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies on 29 March 2004 by Ministerial Decree no. 62187/04.
Its members are farmers, slaughterers and portioning companies operating within the “Vitellone Bianco dell’Appennino Centrale” PGI certification system.

For Gruppo Loma it is of fundamental importance to guarantee a high level of consumer protection and fully informed purchasing choices.
For this reason the group has signed an agreement with the Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production of the University of Naples Federico II (DMVPA) for the assessment of the nutritional values shown on labels,
so as to convey assurance and reliability to its consumers.
